JOSEPH HOPKINS HOWELL II was born Abt. 1733 in
Edgecombe Co, NC, and died Abt. 1835 in Decalb Co, Ga. He m
arried (1) ESTHER SUGG 1749,daughter of AQUILLA SUGG and ELIZABETH MAUND. He married (2) MARGARET ELEANOR GARMON Bef. 1753 in Anson Co, NC, daughter of JOHN GARMON and UNKNOWN. She was born Abt. 1733 in Anson Co, NC, and died Dec 1802 in Edgecombe Co, NC.
Joseph Howell was married to Ester Sugg, daughter of Aquilla Sugg around 1750 and they had five children. Joseph did deed the land for the development of Tarboro in 1760. He left Edgecombe County around 1763-64 and relocated around Mecklenburg County. He left his wife and children here.
Tarboro was incorporated in 1760 and became the county seat of Edgecombe County in 1764.
