Nicholas G. Cross, father of James L. and Nicholas B., settled in Monongalia Co., VA around 1816 (we had an opportunity to go through the old tax records in Greene Co., Greene Twp. There was a notation that Nicholas Cross was "removed" in 1816. Nicholas G. would have been about 18 yrs old). Nicholas Sr. died in 1828 in Monongalia Co. In 1848, Nicholas G. and wife, Anna, were among the original founders of the Harmony Baptist Church in Burton, VA. In 1848 Nicholas G. bought property in Wetzel Co., VA. If James L. was born 1828, it would have been in Monongalia Co., VA. The Mt. Zion Baptist Church where James L. and Margaret were married, described as near Hundred, WV, is really very near to Uniontown and Knob Fork and close to the property that Nicholas G. bought in 1848 (I have that deed). We made arrangements to meet someone and see the original records of that church, but - the early church had burned down and with it the records - the church was rebuilt in 1905 and we did see early records for about the first 20 years, but nothing to help with the earlier generations. I am sure, however, that this is the church where James L. and Margaret Anderson were married. Marriage 1 Spouse Unknown
