In addition, each heir acquire d two-ninths of the liberty ofKilkenny in Ireland, although there is no evidence that any o f themevery visited it. (P) The death of the countess in the summer of 1320completed the d ivision of the estates among th heirs. Maud probablydied on July 2, and the properties sh e held in dower must have beenpartitioned shortly thereafter. Each received an equal portio n of herthird of Kilkenny. **************On her brother's death, she received the lordship of Glamorgan, the most important of all the Clare holdings, along with Rotherfield in Sussex and scattered manors in Devon and Somerset. After her husbands fall, she was committed to the Tower, on November 17, 1326. Her lands were restored to her on April 22, 1328, and the King took her homage and fealty on the following May 11. Before January 26, 1328/29, she was abducted from Hanley Castle by Sir William la Zouche de Mortimer, who subsequently married her. Soon after, William, with Eleanor accompanying him, besieged her castle of Caerphilly, and orders for their arrest were issued on February 5, 1328/29. She was again imprisoned in the Tower and then in Devizes Castle. Although the King ordered her release, she did not regain her liberty until after January 6, 1329/30.
