This hodgepodge of individuals and families do have one unifying theme: 99.9% of them include a Union Civil War veteran in the 2nd generation of a 4-generation family file (where applicable). I offer them here for the benefit of those families who may not have this information.

    PIONEER MASON SUCCUMBS
M.R. BUMP DIES OF PNEUMONIA ATTACK.
Came to Spokane 24 Years Ago ? Service in War With Distinction.
Menzus R. Bump, aged 75, for 24 years a resident of Spokane, and a pioneer Mason member of all the Masonic branches in the city, succumbed yesterday at his residence, 1829 Mission avenue, to an attack of pneumonia, after an illness of but a few days. Mr. Bump had not been in robust health at the time.

The deceased was for the past 20 years tyler of Spokane lodge No. 34, F. and A.M., also of Electa chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the York and Scottish rite bodies of the Masons of the city. He was also a member of the Sedgwick post, G.A.R., having served with distinction in a Wisconsin regiment in the civil war.

He was born in New York state, but while still a young man removed to Mondovia, Wisconsin, whence he entered the army and whither he returned to engage in the flour milling business after the war was over. He came to Spokane with his family, and entered the real estate business. For the past few years he gave up his work and retired. He married Miss Emma Webb in 1863. She died here in 1911. With her he was an attendant of the Westminster Congregational church during his whole residence in Spokane.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Maud Churchill, and Mrs. L. J. Parks, of this city, by a son Milan R. Bump of New York city, by two brothers , G.O. Bump, of Spokane, and L.T. Bump, of Post Falls, Idaho, and by a sister, Mrs. Betsy Alt, of Mondovia, Wisconsin.

The body is at the undertaking rooms of the Turnbull company, awaiting funeral arrangements pending arrival of the son from New York.
