Here is some additional info from "my" HAWKINS line you may find interesting (The famous "they say"): one Charles Hawkins came to America c 1609-1610 as part of the "Second Charting of the VA Company." Sir Walter Raleigh attempted two or three times to establish a colony here. He sent a cousin in charge because Elizabeth 1st couldn't bear to part from Sir R.(remember Roanok Island fiascos?) Elizabeth died on 24 Mar 1603, and he was finally allowed to make the trip here himself. A small Spanish village was attacked and wiped out, causing all sorts of Political Hell with Spain. This is why he finally got his head lobbed off. (Needless to say, I'm a History buff.) The time is right, could ol' Charles have been in this group? Marriage 1 Spouse Unknown |
