CHRISTIAN C. HAINLEY
Death of one of Taylor Township's Respected Citizens.
One more of Taylor township's oldest and well respected citizens passed down the valley of the shadow of death and is now at rest in the city of the blest. On September 1st at 6:30 p.m., Christian C. Hainley, a well known citizen of Blair county died at his old home in Taylor township, near Roaring Spring, of marasmus. On September 1, 1836, he was married to Barbara Snowberger, who yet survives, their pilgrimage together being 59 years to the date. He was born, married and died in the area of two miles and lived all of his life in Taylor township. They were the parents of thirteen children, two of them dying in infancy. Samuel, George and Christ died after growing to manhood, and one daughter, Elizabeth, wife of S.T. Ayers died at Roaring Spring one and one-half years ago. Those who survive him are four sons and three daughters. Jacob S., and John S., of Buda, Illinois; Daniel C., of Roaring Spring and Andrew, of Logan township. The daughters are Mrs. Christian Markey, of near Hollidaysburg and Mrs. Peter Kurtz and Mrs. Peter Hite, of Roaring Spring. He had 33 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was born May 5, 1811, died September 1, 1895, making him the good old age of 84 years, 3 months and 26 days. The funeral took place on Tuesday, leaving at 10 a.m., proceeding to the Reformed church at East Sharpsburg, where appropriate services were conducted by Rev. Brice Sell, assisted by Rev. T.B. Madox and Rev. J.S. Stayer. The remains were laid to rest in the East Sharpsburg cemetery witnessed by a large concourse of mourning relatives and friends.
Dear husband thou art gone,
Gone to return no more;
But if God will keep me faithful,
I will meet you on the shore.
Dear father thou hast left us,
Now our number left is seven.
We will trust the Lord to lead us
And we'll meet you up in heaven.
Now dear mother and dear children,
When these humble lines you read,
Will you stop and think a moment?
Then ask God for what you need.
If you follow in His footsteps
For his paths, they are the best,
They will lead you to that city
Where your loved ones are at rest.
