Dick, as he was familiarly known, will be misse d in the community where he had for many years taken an act ive part in lodge and draatic work as well as being an acco mplished physician. He was one of the mainstays of the tow n band for the past 50 years and was instrumental in revivi ng its activities 10 years ago when he played solo trombone . A tinsmith by trade, for many years he conducted a busine ss on what is now part of the government dock. Perhaps his greatest contribution to the town was hi s ability to organize and play in the many dramas that he s taged in the early days of the town as well as being a stan dby of the town's brass band. Born at Meaford on December 29, 1864, the son of Mr. a nd Mrs. Thos.Boyter, he moved to the Island while yet in hi s teens and had made his home here since that time. He marr ied Jean Rowland and one son and two daughters were born t o them. The boy, Fred died before his 10th birthday but bot h daughters, Mrs. Ted Runnalls, Regina, Sask.; and Mrs. G . Boddy, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., survive him. The funeral was h eld from the United Church on Sunday, November 2nd, with Re v. Shaw conducting the service. The large number of floral t ributes and the number attending the service testified to t he esteem in which Mr. Boyter was held.
