    William Burns Passes on November 23rd
    A resident of Manitoulin Island for over fifty years, Willi am Burns died on November 23rd in his 80th year. The late M r. Burns was one of the town's most highly respected citize ns and had spent most of his life timbering and as a road c ontractor, retiring from active work about twelve years ago . Much of his time in the later years was devoted to his ga rden.
    Born in Collingwood, he was one of a family of eleven child ren. He was married there to the former Elizabeth Ransier a nd they moved to the Island fifty years ago, living for a t ime at Meldrum Bay, and later coming to Gore Bay, where h e resided until the time of his death. The late Mr. Burns w as keenly interested in the welfare of the town and also fo llowed with interest anything in the sporting circles, hors e-racing, baseball and curling.
    Of his family of eight children, two daughters, Emma and El izabeth predeceased him nearly twenty years ago. Survivin g are his widow, two daughters, Mrs. R.C. Collins, Tyner, S ask., Mrs. F.W. Baxter Gore Bay; and also three sons, Andre w of Gore Bay; William of Detroit and Edgar of Sault Ste. M arie. Four brothers and one sister also survive.
    The funeral service was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Baxter and was conducted by Rev. A.J. Bruce of All Saint s Church on Wednesday, November 26th. Interment was made i n Gordon Cemetery. Pallbearers were Messrs. Fred Smith, Jas . Gordon, Chas. Wright, Jos. Montgomery, Robt. Beaton and R ussell McDermid.

    Burns-On Sunday, November 23rd, 1941, William James Burns , of Gore Bay in his 80th year. Funeral was held from the h ome of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Baxter, on Wednesday, Nov. 26th , to Gordon cemetery for interment. A.J. Turner, funeral di rector.
