James Robert died in a car accident near Gore Bay
Casualty List (handwritten, 1945) Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Purvis, Gore Bay, received words recently , that their son O/S Jim Purvis, R.C.N. had been seriousl y injured at sea. Later reports indicated that Jim Purvis was taken to a hosp ital in the Bermuda where a brain operation was performed a nd his condition is as good as can be expected.
News Article - 1957 J. Purvis Killed In Car Accident Near Ice Lake Robert Purvis, 31, Sault Ste. Marie, was instantly killed T uesday night, when the car in which he was riding rolled ov er about three miles east of Ice Lake post office. Driver of the car, Goldyn Brown, Little Current, sustaine d facial injuries and minor bruises. He was taken to his ho me. Purvis is survived by his wife, the former Kathleen "Sis" E adie of Little Current, two sons, Ivan John, 3; and Willia m James, 8 months. Mr. Purvis, formerly of Gore Bay is a son of William Jame s Ivan Purvis, Gore Bay.
Death Ruled Accident (handwritten 57) An inquest into the death of Robert James Purvis, aged 31 y ears, was held in Gore Bay on Saturday, December 7th. The y oung man was killed in a car accident in Kagawong swamp o n the Gore Bay-Little Current highway on October 15th. After hearing the evidence, the jury brought in the followi ng verdict, "That he came to his death by accidental means , with no blame attached to anyone."
