Mrs. Charles Ferguson
On Feb. 19th, 1921, there passed away another of the earl y pioneers of Manitoulin in the person of Mrs. Chas. Fergus on.
Mrs. Ferguson's maiden name was Catherine Jane McDonald . She was born in the tonwhsip of Seneca, Co. of Haldiman , Ont., in the year 1869, and came to Manitoulin Id. With h er parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alexander McDonald, in the year 18 74, and was married to the late Chas. Ferguson in 1886. The y settled down to build up a home on lots 14 and 15 in th e sixth concession of Carnarvon, where they remained unti l removed by death, Mr. Ferguson being for many years Reev e of Carnarvon.
Mrs. Ferguson was strong and healthy in appearance; but i nternal cancer which has so long baffled the skill of the d octors, caused her death at a comparatively early age.
Of her father's family only one brother, Mr. Robert McDon ald of Mindemoya, survives. She lost another brother, Richa rd, a few years ago, and her husband pre-deceased her a lit tle over a year and a half ago. She leaves four sons and fi ve daughters, namely Mrs. Wm. McAllister and Mrs. David Wil liamson Jr, who live in the neighborhood, and Daniel, Mary , Robert, William, Agnes, Albert and Isabelle at home.
Mrs. Ferguson was a kind, thoughtful mother, a true and l oving wife and a good neighbor who won and retained the gen eral respect of the community. Her family and surviving bro ther have the sympathy of the community in their double ber eavement within so short a time.
The remains were followed to Mindemoya cemetery, by a lon g procession of sympathizing friends. The funeral service w as conducted by Rev. Wm. Munro of Providence Bay. The pall- bearers were Messrs. Wm. Vincer, A. McKechnie, D. Williamso n, Geo. Bond, Thos. Fisher and J. Cooper.
