OBITUARY - William Omnet
The late William Omnet, who came to a sad death by dro wning at West River, on June 30th, 1927, was born at Greeno ck, Scotland, in the year 1870 and came to Canada with hi s parents and other members of the family in 1873. The fami ly located at Stayner, Ontario. They came to Manitoulin i n 1879, landing at Providence Bay. Mr. Omnet spent the gre ater part of his life at Grimesthorpe, township of Campbell , having removed from that locality to Little Current fou r years ago. Before coming to Little Current he had been p ostmaster at Grimesthorpe for fifteen years. He was also f or a number of years secretary/treasurer of Campbell Unite d Church and took a lively interest in church affairs. I n 1903 he married Mrs. Margaret Morrey, who with his family , Messrs. Colin and John and Miss Julia at home and also Mr . William and Miss Mary Morrow of Manitowaning survive. Ot her relatives are his brother, Mr. Peter Omnet of Sault Ste . Marie and three sisters, Mrs. George Anderson, Sault Ste . Marie; Mrs. Geo. Griffith, Poplar and Mrs. Geo. McRae, Go re Bay. The sorrowing families have the sympathy of the en tire community.
The funeral took place on June 2nd, the services ha ving been conducted by an old friend Rev. Wm. Munro of Silv er Water, Ontario, assisted by Captain Renshaw, officer o f the Salvation Army of Little Current. The pallbearers we re Messrs. T. MacDonald, Alex MacDonald, Jas. MacLean, Wm . VanZant, Wm. Catheart, and Laughlan Campbell and Mr. O.T . Bennett, undertaker, superintended the burial.
Mr. Omnet was a man of a kindly disposition, a good ne ighbour and a kind and loving husband and father, and his r emoval will be regretted by a large circle of friends.
