ROYAL GEORGE ARNOLD
Royal George Arnold died on March 20, 1979, after a length y illness, at the Red Cross Hospital. He was 85 years-of-ag e.
Roy was born at Bruce Mines, Ontario on February 18, 1894 , the eldest son of the late John Arnold and Susan Coultis . At an early age, Roy, his father and mother and sister, E dith (predeceased in 1909) came to the Manitoulin and settl ed in Sandfield Township on a farm on the Manitou River.
On July 3, 1918 he married Hazel Leeson from Tehkummah Town ship where they lived for a few years on a farm. They had t hree sons: Leeland, aged two, died in 1921; Donald of Willo wdale and Wendell of Manitowaning.Three sisters also mour n his loss: Ethel, Mrs. Lawrence Runnalls of St.Catharines , Lee, Mrs. Dave Foster of North Bay, and Nellie, Mrs. Aust in Leeson of Tehkummah. Also seven grandchildren and five g reat-grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers, Ha rry, William, Harvey and Ross.
Roy was the community blacksmith for a number of years afte r moving to Sandfield in 1921 where he lived until his pass ing.
Services were held in the Tehkummah Fairview United Churc h with Rev. Marvel Neddow assisted by Rev. Roy Hunter. Mrs . Hunter sang "in the Garden."
Interment was in the family plot in Hilly Grove Cemetery. T he many floral tributes and donations to the various organi zations indicated the high esteem in which he was regarde d by all who knew him.
