    The Late Mr. David Young
    David Young was born in the County of Haldimand near Cale donia in 1847 and was one of thirteen of a family. He was t he son of the late Edmund and Helen Young. In 1879 he cam e to Manitoulin Island, and squatted on land near Meldrum B ay and built a little shanty which still remains. As soon a s the land came into the market he purchased the farm whic h he had chosen for his home; and on this farm he resided n early all the time until removed by death on June 24, 1922.
    In 1883 he married Miss Charlotte Elmore who survives him , she being the only survivor of the five daughters of th e late Dr. Hercules Elmore.
    With the passing of Mr. Young another of the pioneers o f the Manitoulin has gone to his rest. He was a kind husban d, a good neighbor, a true and loyal citizen and a man wh o commanded the respect of a large circle of friends. In th e early days the late DR. A. Findley, Superintendent of Mis sions, for Northern Ontario made Mr. Young's home his headq uarters when he visited Meldrum Bay. Mr. Young had a kindl y hospitable disposition by which he gained and retained ma ny friends He was also a Justice of the Peace for about thi rty-five years.
    Two brothers, Peter and George, and two sisters predeceas ed him. Of the brothers and sisters who survive a twin brot her, John, resides in Woodstock, Mrs. Daniels resides at Ca ledonia, Ont. Edmund is overseer in connection with the tra nsportation of Chinese, and is at present in California, an d Mrs. Nichols resides in Hamilton, Ont.
    The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Wm. Munro unde r the maples at Mr. Young's late home and the remains wer e interred in Meldrum Bay cemetery nearby. Mr. Young had go ne to Sault Ste. Marie for medical treatment where he die d but four hours after the operation for cancer of the bowe ls. Mrs. Young has the sympathy of the community in her ber eavement.
