    Eliphalet H. Hawbaker, 89, a former mayor of Stratford, died Saturday morning, February 17, at the Story City Memorial Hospital after being a patient there since June.
    Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Calvary Methodist Church with Rev. Walter Phelps officiating and with burial in the Oakwood Cemetery northeast of Stratford.
    Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Goldie) Clark, St. James, Minn., and Mrs. Robert (Anna) J. Morris, Mankato, Minn., and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
    Mr. Hawbaker was born in Mansfield, Ill., and received his education in the Mansfield schools. He came to Iowa in 1900 when he located in Stratford. He later attended Iowa State College at Ames.
    He engaged in farming in the Hook's Point vicinity near Stratford for many years.
    Mr. Hawbaker was a member of the Calvary Methodist Church for more than 40 years. He was a member of the Masonic Orders, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Woodman Lodge.
    Mr. Hawbaker was a former mayor of Stratford and had held the offices of a director at the Farmers Co-op Elevator at Stratford, a member of the Stratford School Board, a bank director, and a director of the Stratford Mutual Telephone Co.
    He was married to Maude Rodine of Stratford in 1912 who preceded him in death. He was later married to Marie Jones in 1935, who also preceded him in death.
    Others preceding him in death were one son and a daughter, Charles and Helen Hawbaker, and his parents.
