He was the Willie D. Willard living with James & Zilphia Willard in 1900 as a border. His mother died in 1890 and his father was living in Kansas in 1900. His birthday was listed on that census as May 1879. So, his birthday may have been May 28, 1879 or as on his tombstone, May 26, 1879, although one source gives his birthday as 1878.

"Funeral services for William Daniel Willard, 90, West Plains, were to be held at 2 p.m., today in Shiloh Baptist Church, Rover, Mo.
Mr. Willard died at 4:15 p.m. Friday in West Plains Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for six hours. He was born May 26, 1879 in Oregon County, Mo., the son of the late Martin and Sarah Hurst Willard, and was married June 5, 1901 at Rover, Mo., to Lola Cowens, who survives him.
Mr. Willard was of the Methodist faith, and was a former member of the International Order of Odd Fellows.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lola Willard, West Plains; one son, Alva Willard, Koshkonong; one daughter, Mrs. Tilda Moore, West Plains; two sisters, Mrs. Maudie Smith and Mrs. Meadie Carter, Marysville, Calif.; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; and a number of nephews and nieces.
Burial was to have been in Jolliff Cemetery under direction of Carter Funeral Home, West Plains."
