Oregon County Circuit Court, 1860 -- State of Mo. vs. James Edding and James Willard. Steal bee stand of W. Bellah.
He was in the Civil War in Co. F, 60th Ill. Inf. with his brother Bill. The family had already moved to Oregon Co., Mo., a southern-sympathizing county. But since Bill & Jim were raised in Illnois they did not want to fight for the South, so they ran off (walked) back to Illinois (probably to their half-brother, Henry's home) where they enlisted in the Union Army. Their cousin, John Willard (son of Martin) enlisted in the Confederate Army, and their uncle Randolph Jolliff was in the Confederate Army. Jim & Bill were captured in 1862 and exchanged 6 months later. James' military record described him as 5'11", with light complexion, blue eyes and dark hair.
Since there were several James Willards around, he was nicknamed "Jickey Jim."
Jim & Amanda moved back to Oregon Co, Mo. by 1869.
