    John is my gggg-grandfather.
    Maybe John C. Lindesmith

The area where he was born was Bedford County until 1795 when it became Somerset County, Pa.

They moved to Ohio in 1807, probably soon after their marriage. All their children were born in Ohio.
He and his brothers, Peter & Daniel served in the War of 1812 and were all musicians and soldiers, carrying their own rifles. John was in Capt. Zimmerman's company, August-October, 1812. John & Peter belonged to the infantry from Columbiana County, Ohio. They were under Gen. Hull's command and were in the campaign through Ohio, Indiana & Michigan, but "for patriotic reasons, were not included in Hull's treacherous surrender. The circumstance was this: several of the bravest officers became aware of Hull's traitorous design, and to escape being surrendered, they reported that Indians were scalping citizens of a certain place, and volunteered with a number of picked men to go to their rescue, and thus escaped falling into the hand of Gen. Brock, the British commander." [from: History of the Upper Ohio Valley, Columbiana Co, pub 1891]

He & brother Peter were on a list of voters in an election April 1, 1816, Hanover twp.
He was on the 1820 census in Hanover Twp, Columbiana Co, OH (p 078)
John Lindesmith and Samuel Crissinger built the first houses in the village of Dungannon, which "were nothing but shanties" [from History of Columbiana co, OH, 1879, p162]

John's occupation was farming and shoemaking. He and Anna lived on the south side of Dungannon (where their grandson, Thomas C. Lindesmith, later lived).

Anna died Feb. 14, 1824 at the age of 40, leaving 8 children from infancy to age 16. John died 6 years later, June 24, 1830, aged 48, on his farm near Dungannon, Ohio; buried in the Trinity churchyard cemetery.
