"James Fugate lived in Virginia and Kentucky and then, after marriage, he moved to Missouri before 1810 and then to Des Moines County, Iowa.
According to a note left by Belle Rhodes, James was in sympathy with the southern Rebels during the Civil War, but his son Joseph was not, so when Joseph joined the Union Army of the north, James said he hoped Joseph would be the one to stop the first bullet.
Upon his mothers death in 1827, James inherited his mothers land in Bath County, Kentucky. and moved back there when he remained the rest of his life. Information came from: Eugene Rhodes, Idaho, from a family history he put together."
