Jesse F.McClendon Genealogy: " He lived in Montgomergy County, N.C. and Nasa County, N.C. were a number of his children were born. Later he moved to Green County, Ga. His wife was named Elizabeth. His daughter, Sophie McClendon was born, perhaps, in Montgomery County, N.C. Jan. 1st, 1790, and she married in Green County, Ga., Feb 6, 1806.
" On Jan. 13, 1831, Jacob McClendon and Thomas Fincher applied for temporary administrationship papers on the estate of Thomas McClendon dec'd., and until the regular term of court in March when permanent administrators could be appointed. From this we know, or take for granted that this was Thomas McClendon, Jr., who died in Henry County, Ga., early in Jan. 1831.
"In will of Thomas McClendon of Henry County, he leaves his property to his wife Elizabeth McClendon, during her life time, and at her death to be divided equally between his children, with the exception of Larkin Millsaps, who has had her share. He willed or wished his daughter Elizabeth's children to have what would have been hers, should she have lived. Dated 1829.
"Witness by Thomas Fincher, Benjamin Fincher, Iasen H. Mackey
    "Will probated Feb. 14, 1831.
"In 1833 Elizabeth McClendon gets permission from the court to sell a certain lot of land, the proceeds to be used in buying her a home, and the balance ot be divided between the heirs. Thomas Fincher and Wiley McClendon were Testators, in this transaction.

McClendon Genforum, posted 2 Sep 2002 by Lynda Moreau, New Orleans:

I recently received a photocopy from an old Bible now in the hands of a McClendon descendent in Arkansas. This bible apparently came down through the family of Miriam M. McClendon, daughter of Thomas McClendon and Sarah Woodward of Chambers County, Alabama.

Here is the information, copied exactly:

    Written across the top:
Thomas McClendon was born the 7th day of June 1759
Elizabeth Cooper was born the 28th of February, 1767
Thomas McClendon expired the 4th January 1831
    Elizabeth McClendon expired (left blank)

Listed below as if children of those above:
Joel McClendon was born Dec. 27 1784
Joseph McClendon wa born February 26 1786
    Sophia Lasseter
    Thomas McClendon
    Jacob McClendon
    Jeptha McClendon Nov. 1794
    Enoch McClendon August 31, 1796
    Mary Bakery (?) September 5, 1798
Lucinda Fincher died 1 November 1827
Elizabeth Millspaugh (?) death date above written out to side between these two names - can't tell which it goes with.
    Cynthia Fincher March 30, 1805
    Wiley McClendon April 25, 1807
    Lydia McClendon September 13th 1804

I think this is an exciting find for McClendon researchers, and I believe it proves the parentage of Thomas McClendon of Chambers County, Arkansas (my ancestor).

I have a photocopy from the book Henry County, Georgia: The Mother of Counties (pg. 44) which coroborates the info in the bible. It reads:

"Thomas McClendon, Jr. was born 1758 and died in Georgia. Served in Georgia Line as private Georgia Militia under Gen. Elijah Clarke, received bounty of land in Georgia for his service. Married Elizabeth. Their daughter Sophie McClendon married in Henry County, GA Joseph Jessie Lasseter who went to Fayette County, GA. Thomas McClendon Jr. made Will in Henry County Feb. 14, 1831. Names wife Elizabeth. She sells lot of land No. 56 in 2nd district in 1833 for the purpose of reinvestment. Thos. and Benj. Fincher attested his will. Jacob and Wiley McClendon mentioned."

    Regarding the following reference:

Thomas McClendon, father of Sophia Lassiter served in the GA Line during the Rev War, but Sophia Lassiter list her birth place as NC,(1790) in the 1850 Census. This initially seemed to be a contradition, but I have found that there were NC men who came to GA to serve and then went home to NC. James Fincher of Randolph Co, NC and later Jasper Co, GA did just that. James Fincher was the brother of Mary Fincher, wife of Isaac McClendon of Jasper Co, GA. It is possible that Isaac McClendon did the same thing.

Sworn Testimony of Major Jonathan Jackson McClendon:
"I, Jonathan Jackson McClendon, hereby certify that my mother who was Miss Olive Blake, the daughter of Wm. Blake and Lucy Allen (Widow Mobley) both formerly of N.C. and later of Ga. told me that Wm. Blake, her father, was a soldier in the Revolutionary War and was a man of prominence and wealth of that date. When he went to the war he secreted many of his valuables on an island in his Mill pond, and the Tories discovered them and made way with them. His first wife died while he was off fighting for his country and he returned to look after the safety of his large family. He sent his son to the war as his substitute, and the son was killed while fighting. Wm. Blake's second wife was Mrs. Lucy Allen Mobley (she a Miss Allen) of N.C. She was my grandmother. They moved to Elbert county, Ga, after the Revolutionary War. Wm. Blake owned lands in our near Raleigh, N.C. My daughter, Mrs. Loulie M. Gordon of Atlanta, Ga. misunderstood my account of my hamily history, thinking that I said that W. Blake was the son of Thomas Blake. He was not the son of Thomas Blake and was not related to Thomas Blake that I know of. I also certify that my mother, Olive Blake, who married my father Joseph McClendon told me that my father was in the war of 1812, under Gen. Floyd and Col. Ezekiel --------, I can not recall that last name, and that my grandfather, Thomas McClendon, was a soldier in the Revolutionary war and was severely wounded in the abdomen while in the war. He died at a very old age, since my birth. He married Miss Sarah Cooper of Ga. Thomas McClendon's father with two brothers (one named Lewis who was separated from his brothers, and they never heard from him) came from the North of Ireland. They were from Scotland before going to Ireland. The family had strong Scotch characteristics.
... [continues with testimony of his own Civil War service]
Wit. J.J. McClendon, 1800 (sic, probably a typo, meant 1900).
[The above testimory has been published elsewhere, but I do not have a record of where the original copy is or what the testimony was originally create for.]
