BIOGRAPHY: Charles East was apprenticed to a Merchant Ship named the Agnes in 1811. The Agnes was a Merchant ship that brought wood from Canada to England. He made three trips on this ship between England and Quebec between 1811 and 1812.The first two trips were uneventful. On the third trip there was some sort of problem between Charles and the Ship's Captain. The Captain chased Charles who climbed the mast and fell. Charles and two of his shipmates fled from the ship and found themselves at a farmer's house in Portneuf Quebec - the home of Jean Constantin. Mr. Constantin took Charles in and helped him recover from his injuries. He sent the other two boys back to their ship. Charles was raised by Jean Constantin and stayed in Quebec for the rest of his life where he married Helene Rocheron and had many children. The loss of his wife Helene Rochon in 1845 caused Charles to have several of his children adopted, something he deeply regretted for the rest of his life.
