"Daniel Sherwood was a miller and carpenter. In 1712 he moved inlan d from Fairfield to become Ridgefield's 29th and last original propri etor, and first miller. In 1716 he built a mill at Mamanasco Lake, R idgefield (there is a "Mill Covenant", dated 30 JAN 1716 or 17, betwe en Daniel and the proprietors of Ridgefield; after he died, his son , Daniel, Jr., took over responsibility for the mill, and the covenan t remained in effect until 1779). He is listed as a taxable residen t of Ridgefield in 1746, as was his son Daniel, Jr. Daniel, Sr's hom e lot was just N of Benjamin Burt's (for those of you with access t o early plat maps). Daniel's will was dated 19 AUG 1749, and was off ered for probate on 2 OCT 1749, at Danbury, CT. (Danbury Probate Reco rds, Vol. 1, p. 34)."
