?Sgt. Arnold Stene Missing in Action, Reported Dead?
?Memorial Rites are Set for Sunday Afternoon in St. Pauli Church?
Another Pennington county soldier has given his life in teh service of his country, it was learned Sunday when Melvin Stene of this community received word from the war department that his brother, Sgt. Arnold Stene, had been killed in action in Germany. The announcement followed word received two weeks ago that he had been missing in action since October 8.
Sgt. Stene, who was serving with a tank battalion, had been inducted into the army in April, 1942, and went overseas a year ago, serving in France and Germany since the opening of the invasion. He had been wounded in France July 9, and went back into action late in August.
Surviving his death are five sisters and two brothers, including Mrs. Philip Bolden, Mrs. Charles Krause, Mrs. Arnold Gunderson, Thelma, Theresa, Melvin and Stanley Stene.
Memorial rites in tribute to the memory of Sgt. Stene, who was born in Smiley township May 17, 1920, will be conducted next Sunday afternoon, November 19, at 2:30 in the St. Pauli church near Hazel, Rev. A. O. Skibsrud officiating.?
