    Obituary in the Thief River Falls Times, 27 Aug 1975: ?Funeral services for Melvin Stene, 68, of this city were held Tuesday at 10 a.m., at Zion Lutheran church. A lifetime resident of Pennington county, Stene died Friday at his home at 322 Crocker Avenue North. Rev. Alexander Stoffel officiated at the services. Jerry Joringdal was the organist and Mrs. James Johnson, the soloist. Interment was in the St. Pauli cemetery with the Green Funeral home in charge of arrangements. Honorary pallbearers were Andy Williams, Oscar Odegaard, Gust Gustafson, Carl Alberg, and William Blankenfeld. Serving as active pallbearers were David Thune, Peter Thune, James Thune, Scott Hanson, Steven Swanson and Duane Swanson. Melvin Stene, a son of the late Tobias and Marie Stene, was born November 30, 1906, in Thief River Falls. He grew to manhood in Smiley township, Pennington county, and farmed there for several years. On January 11, 1944, he was married in Thief River Falls to Clara Arneston Thune. They lived in Smiley township until 1948, when they moved into this city. Stene was employed as a truck driver for local lumber yards until he retired. He was a member of Zion Lutheran church and the Eagles lodge. He is survived by his wife, a step-son, Russell Thune of Bismarck, ND; a step-daughter, Mrs. Beverly Houston of Thief River Falls, 16 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Also five sisters: Mrs. Bertha Hutchison of Tacoma, Washington; Mrs. Thelma Prince of Chicago, Illinois; Mrs. Minnie Krause and Mrs. Ann Gunderson, both of Thief River Falls; and Mrs. Theresa Lian of Anoka. He was preceded in death by four brothers, a step-son and one grandson.?
