  • Note:

From the Pennington County History (1975): One daughter, Agnes (myself) was born on November 5, 1896 and 18 years later a son, Lenning, was adopted. I, Agnes, was married to George Baken, a barber, on Jun 1, 1919 after his having enlisted and served two years in the Navy. He started as an apprentice when 17 years old. Later he was co-owner of the Model Barber Shop [in Thief River Falls] for a few year, but retired because of ill health and passed away on November 4, 1937. His mother told me that as a small boy, Moose Dung wanted to adopt him. He was fascinated by his freckles and red hair. Needless to say, she did not give her consent.

George and I had two children, Lorraine, born on July 3, 1920, graduated form high school and attended the University of Minnesota two years. She then was society reporter for the Times, from there an airline stewardess on United Airlines (the first from Thief River falls). Later she became a model with John Robert Powers in New York, then to Garnish, Germany on an army transport where she was Special Services Hostess. Here she met her husband, who was stationed there. They were married in Garnish and have a family of four, all now grown. Presently they live in Ottawa, Canada, after living in Holland, Italy, and Greece.

Don, our son, was born on May 28, 1931. From high school he attended and graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, served two years in the armed forces, then got his master's degree from the University of North Dakota. He was associated with Keith Jorde in Texas, in the potato industry. Later, he taught there and in Greenbush. He married a classmate from Concordia, Janet Bagleiu. He is now a coordinator of Work Experience Education in Hayward, California. Janet is a Home Ec teacher in Fremont. They live in Neward, California and have 3 children. They are both pilots of their own plane.
