From Pennington County History (1976): .... In Thief River, I took a job at Hartz Warehouse and my sister worked for awhile at Dahl?s Bakery. I worked at Hartz for three months, and decided to go to Bremerton, Washington to look for a job. That wasn?t to my liking so I came back to Thief River Falls. In the meantime, my sister Stella got a job at the Evelyn Hotel. From here I went to Grand Forks and was employed for awhile at the Potato Warehouse for two months. That was entirely too hard work, so my landlord told me to go ask at the State Mill and Elevator Co. There I met a fellow, Oscar Gulson, and he said I could start work the next day. That was a big thrill for me to be employed at such a swell place. I worked there for 25 years.
My sister Stella married John Horn in 1945, which ended in a divorce, so she came to live with me in 1952. I retired in 1970, after being laid up with arthritis. In 1971, we decided to sell our house in Grand Forks and came to Viking, Minnesota, where my sister and I now live.
