    From Pennington County History (1976): I attended high school in St. Hilaire and finihsed in 1931 from Concordia College. In 1930 I married Thelma Evenson. We lived in Hazel until 1944. I served as High School Principal at Goodridge, Newfolden and Strandquist. Later, I worked for Northrup King as territory manager until 1972 when I retired.

    Obituary: Thief River Falls Times - Oscar Odegaard, 95, died on Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

    Funeral services were held on Monday, December 2 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. John Wollenzien officiating. Ida Nordvall was the organist. Casketbearers were Wally Reierson, Wally Wiskow, Joseph Michal, Willaim Michal, Erik Odegaard, Sonja Odegaard and John Michal. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls.

    Oscar Albert Odegaard was born on September 26, 1907, the son of Ole Amanda (Peterson) Odegaard in Hazel. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Pauli Lutheran Church. He grew up and attended grade school in Hazel and graduated from St. Hilaire High School in 1927. He also attended and graduated from Concordia College, Moorhead in 1931 with a bachelor of arts degree, emphasis on teaching and also did post-graduate studies at the University of North Dakota.

    On May 5, 1930, Oscar married Thelma Sylvia Evenson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston. In 1931, Oscar farmed and worked for his father, who operated a general store and U.S. Post Office in Hazel. In 1936, Oscar started the Odegaard Implement Company, selling the Massey Ferguson line of machinery. In 1942, he was employed as a teacher and principal at three schools. In 1943, the couple moved to Thief River Falls. After nine years of teaching, Oscar accepted employment with Northrup King & Co., a Minneapolis based producer of farm and garden seeds. Oscar was a territory manager for northwestern Minnesota and part of North Dakota. At age 65, he retired after 25 years at Northrup King. He entered the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in June 2000.

    Oscar was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Sons of Norway. He was active in U.C.T. and was a longtime member. He was an active fisherman and spent a lot of time at Lake of the Woods. He owned a cabin north of Williams. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening. Oscar owned and managed the family homestead farm in Rocksbury Township and he also had property in River Falls Township.

    Survivors include two daughters, Mae (John) Fincher of Houston, Texas and Shirley (Stan) Michal of Crosslake; two sons, Oscar Jr. (Shirley) of Lansing, Ill. and Gary of Bemidji; eight grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; two brothers, Rueben (Inez) of Arleta, Calif. and Walter of Devils Lake, N.D.; one sister-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Oscar was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma; a son, Duane; and brothers, Morris and Harvey.
