Thief River Falls - Leo Lokken, 70, died on Monday, July 14, 2003 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 18 at the St. Pauli Lutheran Church of rural Thief River Falls with the Rev. Terri Cuppett officiating. Casketbearers will be Larry Halvorson, Mark Halvorson, Randy Dahle, Craig Solem, Mike Solem, Darryl Solem, Michae Cerny, Rob Sando and Terry Dahle. Honorary casketbearers will be all of Leo's friends and neighbors. Interment will be in St. Pauli Cemetery in Thief River Falls. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 17 at the Johnson-Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Leo Lokken was born in Thief River Falls on September 5, 1932, the son of Louie and Cora (Finkle) Lokken. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Pauli Lutheran Church. On June 25, 1971, he married LoAnne Cerny Bjorgaard in Sisseton, S.D. The couple made their home on the Lokken family farm, where they farmed for many years. Leo also worked for the Soo Line Railroad from 1955 until 1992, when he retired.
Leo enjoyed fishing, going out for morning coffee, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a member of the St. Pauli Lutheran Church and the Eagles Club.
Survivors include his wife, LoAnne of Thief River Falls; three children, Mark Bjorgaard of Bejou, Richard (Mary) Bjorgaard of Fargo, N.D., and Lori (Michael) Lucht of Grand Forks, N.D.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; six sisters, Sylvia Lokken of St. Paul, Marge Dahle of Cando, N.D., Carol (Lloyd) Halvorson of Mounds View, Carmen (Stuart) Solem of Grand Rapids, Emily Lokken of Thief River Falls, and Joyce (Fred) Jensen of Minneapolis; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sharon; a sister in infancy; a niece; and a brother-in-law, Reuben Dahle.
