    Thief River Falls - Kermit Finstad, 71, died Thursday, April 8, 1999 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend Galen Sylvester officiating. Joyce Halbasch was the organist. Van Swanson was the soloist. A piano solo was presented by Jill Stoffel, and Jill and Bekki Stoffel presented a duet. Casketbearers were Brian Schindler, Jim Rondorf, Jim Klemmetsen, Ken Geske, Ken Cedergren and Bruce Mathson. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. The Green Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

    Kermit Stiluf Carl Finstad was born on July 3, 1927 in Thief River Falls, the son of Carl and Lydia (Palm) Finstad. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended school in the Hazel area, Rocksbury township, and Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls.

    On May 24, 1952 Kermit was united in marriage to Marian Nelson at First Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. The couple lived and farmed the family farm in Rocksbury township for Kermit's entire life.

    Kermit has served on the ASCS board, Red Lake Electric board, Northwest Regional Development Commission, Pennington County Fair board, Farmer Home Administration board and as Rocksbury township treasurer.

    He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Eagle's Aerie, Sons of Norway and was a 4-H leader for a number of years.

    Kermit is survived by his wife, Marian; one son, Robert (Stephanie) Finstad of Thief River Falls; four daughters, Lynn (Bill) Klyve of Morris, Nancy (John) Stoffel of East Grand Forks, Lori (Joel) Danielson of Minnetonka and Julie (Steven R.) Olson of Thief River Falls; 12 grandchildren; one sister, Louise (Donald) Perkins of Lewistown, MT; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ronald in the Korean Conflict; and one nephew, Douglas Nelson.
