IN MEMORY OF
In Memory of Mr. A.J. Sparkman by his daughter, Mrs. Alice Glenn Mr. A.J. Sparkman died at his home in the 1st district at an early hour Monday morning, April 29th, after an illness of several months. He was the father of five children, three daughters and two sons, three survive him, one daughter, Nora, died several years ago, and J.T. Sparkman died in 1933. Those who survive him are Ira Sparkman of Yager, Mrs. Zeno Hobson of Grants Pass, Oregon and Mrs. Alice Glenn of near McMinnville. He was born June 18th 1849, being 90 years, 10 months and 11 days of age. The deceased was a most estimable man. He had led a quiet life since early manhood and had been a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church for many years. He was a high type of manhood, and was loved and esteemed by a large circle of friends, and the news of his death was received with much sorrow. One of the beautiful features of his character that stands out was his tender consideration for our mother. He was positive but kind with his children. It is thus that we love to picture and enshrine in our memory this generous, grave, sincere, unselfish man, with so kindly a heart. And ever those who lived side by side with him for the long happy years cannot fail to see that in his passing this generation has lost one of its most gracious, wise and princely souls. Funeral services were conducted from the Bethlehem church at 1:00 o'clock, Tuesday, April 30, by W.E. Miller, pastor. Southern Standard, McMinnville, TN. Fri, 24 May 1940.
