  • Note:
William Koger came as a small boy to Kentucky from Henry County, Virginia.
From him, is descended the FW line, the biggest in the Koger family.
William Koger and Polly Bookout were married by Rev.Richard Barrier. William fought in the Battle of New Orleans, during the War of 1812. He went south to Florida and joined up with General Andrew Jackson and together they marched to Louisiana to fight in the Battle of New Orleans and they defeated the British. The American troops allowed the British to come ashore and to form in line for battle and to allow them to approach the swamp land. Here Jackson ordered fire and fire they did.
The Kentucky volunteers were all hidden behind the trees, with their own long barrell rifles. The British retreated and New Orleans was saved.
The Kentuckians were able to go home.
Another interesting story tells of how there was a creek on the Koger Farm in Kentucky(Is this the plantation land that later belonged to William Koger, Jr.?). Many ducks swam in this creek. Often these ducks would come ashore with black spots on them. It was here on this creek, that Oil was discovered and Kentucky oil was furnished to the nation. William and Polly are burried in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery and the markers on their graves are shaped like coffins in Parmleysville, Ky.

William Koger was born in Augusta County, Virginia, but records say that he moved from Henry County in Virginia to Kentucky as a small boy with his parents. He stayed in Kentucky. He fought in the battle of New Orleans in 1812.
William Koger and Mary "Polly" Bookout were married by Reverend Richard Barrier.
