      Text: Edward Legg, born 1748, was our first known Legg ancestor. According to A. C. Legg of Alabama (a grandson, Edward came to this country from Manchestor, England. Miss Lucky Gibbs of Tennessee (a grand-daughter gave this information on a D.A.R. ap;;lication, "Edward was born in England, coming to this country at the age of 17." + There are five known children of Edward and Mary Legg. John, James, William, Nancy and Wesley. James, Nancy, and Wesley stayed in East Tennessee. William and John's children came to Alabama. John died 1811 in Tennessee.

      Text: 26 Jun 1795 Edward bought "150 acres lying and being on South Side of Holston River, on the head of Morris Creek" in Jefferson Co., Tenn. from Francis Mayberry. Witnesses; Thomas Jackson and Leonard Garrett. On the same day he bought 377 1/2 acres on Flat Creek in Knox Co., Tenn. Wwitnesses: Leonard Garrett and Francis Mayberry. It is not known if he actually lived in Jefferson Co.

      Text: "Andrew was the grandson of Edward (who came from Manchester, England, in time to fight for American Independence) and Mary (Gover) Legg; and the son of William and Nancy (Coffman) Legg. Nancy and William were married in Jefferson Countyk, Tenn., around 1806. Both of their parents ofpposed the marriage, for William was scarcely twenty years old, but the young couple proved their capabilities. Nancy wove cloth while William split rails in order to buy their first cow and pig.
