1784' - John Rains was in Washington County in 1784. His family was the only Rains family there. (John Raines was supposed brother of Frances (Raines?) Burge, wife of Richard Burge, Sr. - GEM)

The first Burge in Georgia as far I know was Drury Burge son of John Burge and brother of Richard Burge, Sr. of the Fairfield District, South Carolina. He turned down the grant and moved back to Fairfield District, South Carolina. ( Noted to show relationship to Burges of Georgia! - GEM )

1789' - 1793' - The next Burge in Georgia was a John Burge. He was listed among Washington County "Headright and Bounty Grants" 1789' - 1793'. Fire destroyed all records in this county in 1855'.

    1790' - Reconstructed Census of Washington County Georgia - John Burge - Headrights & Bounty - 1789' -1793' Surveyor's Records - 1789' - 1793'.

(Note: Following bounty grant was to Matthew's Uncle John Burge in 1790'. - I have no documentation as yet, but believe William, Sr. & John, Sr. were brothers. - GEM) 1790' Aug 10 - Jno Burge - Washington County [later Hancock County] - Receives bounty grant of 379a on Buffaloe Wtrs (Buffalo Creek) adj Peak and Lamar.

Apr. 7, 1823' - BURGE - Thomas Haddon (Henry) PARHAM wrote his will in Baldwin Co. Apr. 7, 1823'; probated July 7, 1823'. He listed his wife, Arden (Agnes CULPEPPER); children: Gincy, Lisha REDDING, Mary ROGERS, Agnes DOZIER (William P. DOZER; her 2nd marriage supposedly was to a GALLOWAY, heirs of Elizabeth (Delilah) REDDING (Anderson Redding); son, Rowland PARHAM his son-in-law, Anderson REDDING; and his grandsons, John H. PARHAM And WILLIAM BURGE. In trying to find out who this William Burge and his parents were, I have checked Parham records. Since I can't find anything in Baldwin County, I thought maybe I could find old records in the area before it became Baldwin. I don't know which Parham daughter married a Burge. The daughter was probably born between 1760' and 1770'. Don't know if she was one of the daughters listed or if she was deceased when the will was written. There are several Burges in the GA area in the 1800's that I continue to place. I will really appreciate any help. Dianne 11/8/02 ( Note: Item placed here for informational purposes! Rebecca, wife of my "William" was born 1760' - 1770', probably in Virginia - GEM )
