Name: Sarah LNU
Birth: ABT 1745 in VA or Pennsylvania
Death: in probably Wilkes County, NC
Doug Huling contacted me on 6/22/2011 about my wife's mtDNA results since she is a direct female line decendant of Milly Hulin, the daughter of William Hulin and wife Sarah, who I had (until then) listed as Sarah Elizabeth Becknell. Doug, who descends from the same Hulin line, wanted to know if the mtDNA test had helped to establish Milly's female ancestry, however I had to reply that it had not (at least thus far). In his response, he provided some information about the Hulin/Huling research he had done. He also pointed out there is no documentation supporting Sarah's surname being Becknell, therefore I have changed it to LNU (Last Name Unknown). However I am retaining my original research notes below in the event some documentation is later found.

I originally found Sarah listed as Sarah Elesibeth Beckneil, however the surname likely is a misspelling of Becknell or Bicknell, both of which are found in Wilkes County, NC. This surname may be spelled in old records as Bucknell, Bagnall, Bagnal, or even Bagnale.
The information about her being the wife of William Hulin and mother of Sarah Elizabeth Hulin came from:
[Note: the exact address in that database may change as updates to the database are posted; if it does, search the database using the name "Sarah Elesibeth Beckneil"]
A response to an inquiry at the Bicknell Family Genealogy Forum contained the following bit of information that could be important since supposed daughter Millie Hulin, who married Lorenzo Dow Davidson, indicated in the 1880 Collin County TX census that her mother was born in "Penn".
There is a book called THE LAND OF THE WILKES by Judge Johnson J. Hayes that relates a lot about the Bicknells who migrated from PA about 1770 and settled in Wilkes County NC in a town called Wilkesboro.
Wilkes County NC was formed in 1777 from parts of Surry County NC and Washington District NC. Washington District NC initially contained the entire area of what became the state of Tennessee, while the population was concentrated in the northeast corner of the district.

14 June 1781: William Leach of Rowan Co. NC married Milley Hulin; William Hendren, bondsman.
31 Jan 1784: Richard Leach married Elizabeth Hulin; Jonathan Heathman, bondsman.
Milly and Sarah Elizabeth Hulin were the daughters of Sarah and William Hulin.
[Note in 2013: If both Hulin women were 18 at the time of marriage, which was typical, this places their birth years at about 1763 for Milley and about 1766 for Elizabeth. It also indicates that the birth years for their parents are earlier than I originally indicated when I first entered the information in this database.]

The following inquiry contains some interesting information about Sarah's second husband and mentions the first as well.
Jonathan Heathman, b. in 1745 in Maryland. Name of 1st wife and mother of Joseph is unknown. They m. in Maryland. and she prob. died in Wilkes Co., North Carolina. Jonathan's 2nd wife was Sarah Hulen/Hulin, wid. of William Hulen of Wilkes Co., North Carolina, were married abt. 1784. Family lived in Wilkes Co., NC. and then moved to Madison Co., Kty. after 1802. I have found little on Becknell-Hulin on the Becknell Family Genealogy Forum, however I did find quite a lot on Bicknell-Hulen in the Bicknell Family Genealogy Forum, much of it involving Wilkes County NC around 1770, but which also mentioned Virginia. One of the most mentioned couples was John Bicknell and Mary "Polly" Hulen, who were born later than the couple I'm researching, however it is quite likely that Sarah Elesibeth Becknell and William Hulin were part of the same families in Wilkes County NC.
The Samuel Becknell mentioned above in regards to the road appears to be the one born 1745 VA, died 21 Aug 1819 in Wilkes County, NC; son of William Becknell, b 7 Mar 1706 in Combeflorey, Somerset, England, died 7 May 1781 in Amherst, Amherst, VA and William's first wife whose name is presently unknown. William's parents were:
Father: William Sr. Becknell b: 15 APR 1679 in Combeflorey, Somerset, England
Mother: Ann Challis b: ABT. 1680 in Combeflorey, Somerset, England
