    1790 Census, Pendleton District, SC:
    Shows William Reed living next to Zeph Roberts
    In the 1790 census, Daniel Weaver and Samuel Weaver (with 1 adult male) are adjacent, followed by Mary Robertson (widow of Henry Robertson?). Samuel Weaver (with 2 adult males) is down 10 households from this group. Frederick Bolinger is the third household after this second Samuel. John Weaver is the ninth household after Frederick Bolinger. William Reed (purchaser of some of the Weaver land) is adjacent to Zepheniah Roberts. These are both in the vicinity of John Chastain, Alexander Eden, George Hutson and Capt. Micaiah Clark.



    Pendleton District, South Carolina on April 11, 1793. EBENEZER FAIN sold 150 acres on S. Branch of Oolenoy Creek to WM. REID for 50 pounds sterling. Property granted to ROBERT WILSON by THOMAS PINCKNEY on December 5, 1787. Recorded in Deed Book T, page 604. On May 8, 1791, ROBERT ANDERSON sold the property to EBENEZER FAIN in the presence of JOHN ADAMS, SR. and HENRY ADAMS.



    Pickens Co., South Carolina on February 14, 1797. WILLIAM REED had granted to him 319 acres bounded by land laid out to JOHN ADAMS and ROBERT WILSON, etc.

    14 Feb 1797. William Reed to Peter Weaver (no consideration), 100A in the NE corner of a 319A [sic] tract laid out [by/for] John Adams and Robert Wilson. Wit. David Weaver and Nathaniel Reed. Oath. David Weaver, 6 Mar 1802. Rec. 8 Mar 1802 by Colin Campbell JP. Pendleton Dist (Anderson Co.) SC Deed Book G, p15. (LDS film 22839)

    State of South Carolina and Pendleton County. Know all Men by these presents that I William Reed of the County and State Aforesaid had Granted to him three hundred and nineteen [sic] Acres of Land as appears by a plat to said Grant on the Waters of the Wolonoy Creek binding on Land laid out John Adams and Robert Wilson of which tract of Land Peter Weaver of Said County and State was to have One hundred Acres and Land out of the North East Corner of said tract by the same more or less beginning at a Certain Chestnut Corner thence North till it Strikes the line of said tract thence from said Chestnut Corner South 60 East till Strikes the SE line of said tract being the Bounds agreed on by both parties who was Joint Tenants in said Land Which I Do Warrant and Defend from myself my heirs and Assigns or any of them as Witness my hand and Seal this 14th Day of February 1797 {William Reed [seal]}

    State of South Carolina. Know all men by these presents that I William Reed of the District of Pendleton and State. aforesaid for and in Consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars paid by John Leatherdale of said District This day have granted Bargained sold released and by these presents doth give grant bargain sell Release and Confirm unto said Leatherdale all that tract or parcel of land Containing one hundred and thirty six more or less lying and being in said District on both sides of Weaver Creek waters of the Woolanoy a fork of Saluda River Joining land laid out for Samuel Weaver and Hunter as appears by a plat annexed to a grant signed by his Excellency William Moultrie to said William Reed bearing the date the first of July 1793 and Recorded in Secretaries Office of said State in grant Book G No. 5. p 381.which is the land intended to be conveyed With all and singular the rights members hereditaments and appurtenances to the said premises belonging or in any wise incident which land I bind myself my heirs and assigns to warrant and forever defend unto the said John Leatherdale his heirs Yea against all manner of person or persons whatever Lawfully Claiming to same or any part thereof as Witness my hand and Seal this 6th of April 1802 Signed in presence of Nath'l Reed, Abel Anderson ...Wm Reed [seal] Violet Reed

    State of South Carolina Pendleton District} This day personally came before me the subscribing Justice Nathaniel Reed and made oath as the law directs that he see William Reed sign seal and deliver this his act and deed of Conveyance to John Leatherdale and also that his wife Violet Reed did perform and sign the same Deed. Abel Anderson was as abscribing witness with himself to the same sworn before me and subscribed this 28th of August 1803. Nath'l Reed

    Anderson Co., South Carolina January 13, 1807. JOHN ADAMS SR. sold a tract of land containing 25 acres situated on Adams Creek on the waters of the Oolenoy, bounded by JOHN SISK to WILLIAM MILLER for $100, part of a tract originally granted to JOHN ADAMS SR. Signed: JOHN ADAMS LS, NATH. REID, JACOB EDENS. On March 10, 1810, NATHANIEL REID appeared before COLIN CAMPBELL, JP and swore under oath that he saw JOHN ADAMS SR. and JACOB EDENS sign deed.     1840 Census for Hamilton Co. TN, William Reid age 70-80 was household head in the 1840 Census of Hamilton Co. TN, and on the next page, William Reed age 75 was listed in the column for Revolutionary War pensioners.

    8 Oct 1841. Benjamin Chastain to Gabriel Benson. 300A (m/l) granted to Benjamin Chastain on 3 Jan 1814. Tracts adjacent to Joshua Roper, Cornelius Keith and the "Waggon Road." Follows, in part, Wm. Reid's "old survey." These tracts originally granted to Samuel Weaver Jr and Sr on Weaver Cr. Wit: Wm. Sadler, Joshua (X) Roper. Pickens Co.     Anne "Nancy" (Reid) Adams filed an affidavidt in Habersham County, GA on behalf of her brother William for a pension from the Revolutionary War. Her birth was listed as October 1765. On 19 August 1836 she identified herself as being born in Caswell County, NC and that her brother did serve in the American Revolutionary War. She was identified in her Father's will as the second eldest daughter, Anne Adams.

    REED, William, Violett, NC Line W5673, BLW #6271-160-55, sol was b 10 Dec 1762 in Caswell Co. NC & he lived there at enl [enlistment] & had lived most of the time since the Rev. in Pendleton Dist SC & in 1800 he moved to Jackson Co GA then moved to Hall Co GA then to to the Cherokee Country then to TN where he lived in Hamilton Co TN when he appl 22 Sep 1835 (he made application in Hall Go GA), wid appl [widow applied] 2 Apr 1844 Hall Co GA where she then lived & she was age of 76, sol had m Violett (--) on 4 Jan 1789 in Pendleton Dist SC & the [sic] lived there for 10 yrs then wid stated they moved to Hall Co GA then to Meigs Co TN then to Hamilton Co TN where sol d 15 Jan 1843. Bible pages enclosed in her application give
    the names of children as follows: Clayton b 25 Oct 1789, Cyntha b 9 Mar 1791, Alfred b 24 May 1794, Elizabeth Brown Reed b 22 Jan 1796, Jane Brown Reed b 16 May 1799, William, Jr. b 14 May 1801 & Edey Shotwell Reed b 25 May 1804, wid appl for BLW 30 Mar 1855 Hall Co GA, the son William P. Reed (as he signed) was of Lumpkin Co GA in 1844, sol's younger sis Nancy Adams stated she was b in Oct 1765 in Caswell Co NC & in 1838 was of Habersham Co GA
    She states that at one time during her absence from Hamilton County. William Reid was induced to marry but the marriage was not recorded and was proved illegal. She says that she was married to William Reid
    Jan. 4, 1789 and that she was Violette Brown before her marriage.
