    Tony J. Walantus, 86, of Springfield died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at his home. He was born April 26, 1916, in Athens, the son of Tony and Mary Prosky Walantus.
    He married Martha Mellish in 1937 in Chatham; she died in 1998. A daughter, Rita, also preceded him in death.
    Mr. Walantus was a checker at Pillsbury Mill for 30 years, retiring in 1978, and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
    Survivors: a son, William Walantus of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a daughter, Patricia Hashman of Lincoln; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Gates of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
    Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Wesley United Methodist Church, the Rev. Rita Nafziter officiating.
    Burial: Oak Ridge Cemetery.
    Ellinger-Kunz and Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
