    STREATOR — John Albert Yusko Jr., 89, of Streator, passed away at 5:07 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Streator.
    Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Solon-Telford Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Randy Hoelzer, Darren Yusko, Tim Sproule, Brad Bushma, Thomas Wissen and Luke Smith. Full military rites will be conducted by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.
    Born Feb. 28, 1921, in Streator, he was the son of John Albert and Olga (Ahrens) Yusko. He married Louise M. Stavar on Feb. 15, 1941, at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport, Iowa. She preceded him in death on May 10, 2005.
    Surviving are daughters, Patricia (Eldon) Hoelzer of Troy Grove and Sharon Rowe, Kathi Bushma and Debbie Storm, all of Streator; a son, John "Jack" (Fran Wilson) Yusko of Bloomington; a brother, Gerald (Emily) Yusko of Streator; a sister, Marian (Willard) Ratliff of Streator; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Evelyn Hess and Dorothy Kusnerik; brothers, Albert E. and Donald Yusko; three great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Connie Yusko.
    Born and raised in Streator, he attended Streator schools. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
    Through the years, he farmed on the family farm with his parents and brothers. Later he worked at Owens-Illinois Glass Company and retired from Owens in 1978.
    John was an avid Cubs follower and baseball fan. He played baseball for the Owens Men's League for many years.
    He was a member of St. Stephen's Church and the American Legion.
    Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
