Mildred Gale Flickinger Gillow, 97, of Vinton, formerly of Garrison, died Saturday, February 9, 2008, at the Vinton Lutheran Home due to complications of a fall.
A memorial service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at Shellsburg Presbyterian Church with Rev. Noelle Andrew officiating. Family will greet friends from 10 AM until service time at the church, and friends are invited to a luncheon at the church following the service. Inurnment will be held at 1 PM at Garrison Cemetery.
Mildred was born October 5, 1910, in rural Garrison, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob Edward and Minnie Mae Baker Flickinger. She attended Big Grove #2, a one-room country school. She was a lifelong resident of Benton County, residing in Garrison until moving to Vinton two years ago.
On October 8, 1940, Mildred was united in marriage with Arthur George Gillow in Dubuque, Iowa. Mildred worked as a homemaker and farmed with her husband. Arthur preceded her in death in May of 1979.
She enjoyed embroidery, puzzle books and Wheel of Fortune.
Mildred is survived by her granddaughter, Allison Hicks of Garrison, and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Gale Hicks; and two brothers, Dale and Harry Flickinger.
A memorial fund has been established.
