Phyllis Bennett (Lawyer), 86, of Florence, SC, formerly of South Elgin, passed away Monday, March 3, 2008. She was born October 6, 1921 in Coles Co., IL, the daughter of Guy and Mona Lawyer.
Phyllis spent the majority of her life in South Elgin, working for Hoffer Plastics from 1961 until her retirement in 1986. She moved to Florence in 2007.
She is survived by her sons, Robert (Faithanne) Bennett of Nicholasville, KY and Ronald (Cindy) Bennett of Florence, SC; her grandchildren, Bruce (Linda) Bennett of Nashville, TN, Brian Bennett of Nashville, TN, Becky Bennett of Bartlett, IL, Shane (Brantlee) Bennett of Columbia, SC, Chad (Laurel) Bennett of Metuchen, NJ; and two great-granddaughters, Bailey and Sullivan. She is also survived by three sisters, Bernadine Fryman of Neoga, IL, June Fryman of Mattoon, IL, and Faye (Arthur) Pekoc of Joliet, IL; two brothers, Gerald (Dorothy) Lawyer of South Elgin, IL and Bill (Joyce) Lawyer of St. Charles, IL; two sisters-in-law, Carol Lawyer of East Dundee and Evelyn Lawyer of Flippin, AR; a special friend, Mary Stockl; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles Edward Bennett; her daughter, Alice Carole Bennett; her brothers, Paul, Pete and Kenneth Lawyer; her sisters, Ida Cronk, Joyce Lawyer and Wanda Pekoc.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 7, 2008 at 11:30 A.M. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Missions Church at Sandhurst, 1140 3rd Loop Rd., Florence, SC 29505.
