Arnold Calkins
1936-2008
Arnold "Arnie" Calkins, 71, of Oglesby and formerly of Streator, died Thursday, July 3, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hagi Funeral Home with the Rev. Danira Parra officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Tonica.
He was born Aug. 28, 1936, in La Salle, to Lyle A. and Vera (Armstrong) Calkins. He grew up in Deer Park Township and attended Tonica High School. He married Donna Jean Hiltabrand at Tonica Methodist Church on Dec. 18, 1954.
He and his wife owned and operated Calkins Trucking and Milam and Sproule Trucking in Streator for 42 years before retiring in 2002.
He was a member of Eagles Lodge Aerie 645 and Moose Lodge 372, both in Streator. He also was a member of Farm Ridge Episcopal Church and a retired member of Teamsters Local 722.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years; his mother, Vera Calkins Earhart, of Tonica; one son, Michael Calkins, of Streator; two daughters, Kathy (Rob) Kacvinsky and Cindy (Kelly) Liptak, both of Streator; four grandchildren, Shannon Schierer, Josh Calkins, Kari Kacvinsky and Jake Kacvinsky; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Zackary Schierer; two brothers, Dick (Donna) Calkins, of Oglesby, and Sam (Joann) Calkins, of Oglesby; four sisters, Sandy (Don) Ribolzi, of Oglesby, Edna (Chuck) Schiffbauer, of Tonica, Sheri (Duane) Dauber, of Bonita, Calif., and Marilyn (Bill) Poutre, of Utica; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1966 and one brother, Gary Calkins, in 1993.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Mesarchik, Carl Barton, Bill Maass, Jay Gebhardt, Josh Calkins, Shannon Schierer and Jake Kacvinsky.
Memorials may be directed to Tonica Fire and Ambulance, Tonica Methodist Church, Youth Service Bureau, American Cancer Society or the donor's choice.
