      Note: Obituary: Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary for Berry J. Smith, 78, a resident of Santa Maria who died Thursday in a local convalescent hospital.

      Gordon Herrmann of the Foster Road Church of Christ will officiate, with burial to follow in Santa Maria Cemetery.

      Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 27, 1901, in Arkansas, and had been a resident of Santa Maria since 1952. She was an active member of the Foster Road Church of Christ.

      Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Elmer, of Santa Maria; daughters, Louella Larsen, Maxine Rubel and Parry Parish, all of Santa Maria; a son, Henry Gragg, Jr., of Cherryville, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

      Visitation will be held today from noon until 9 p.m. at Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary, which was in charge of funeral arrangements.
