    J. G. MASON DIED SUNDAY

        James Gordon Mason, 69, died at home Sunday morning, after a lingering illness.
        Born in Washington County, he came to this county as a young man engaging in the drug business.  He owned and operated Mason's Pharmacy for forty years.
        In 1920 he organized the Central Bank and was its first president.  He also had large farming interests and was a dealer in livestock.
        Several years ago he retired from active business, on account of ill health.
        Public spirited, Mr. Mason had served on the City Council and was a member of the Board of School Trustees for 18 years.  Sponsoring of all things educational, he had aided young prople in furthering their education.
        Surviving are his wife, two sons: Lt. John R. Mason, with the U. S. Army Air Forces in Italy; Max E. Mason, Macon; four daughters: Miss Lulie Mason, Swainsboro, Miss Nell Mason, Orlando, Fla., Mrs. A. W. Meares, Raleigh, N. C., Mrs. J. E. Bishop, Atlanta; one grandchild: Maxine Mason; two sisters: Mrs. T. F. Lewis, Swainsboro, Mrs. Mamie Sherouse, Atlanta; three brothers: C. S. Mason, Swainsboro, T. E. Bridgges, Atlanta, W. W. Bridges, Shreveport, La.
        Funeral services were held at the residence on Monday at 4 o'clock, the Rev. H. C. Griffin, Pastor of the Methodist Church assisted by the Rev. Byron Kennerly, Pastor of the Baptist Church, officiating.  Interment was in the City Cemetery.
        Pall bearers were: Otis G. Price, John R. Powell, John B. Spivey, J. I Lewis, H. C. Edenfield and Lynwood Thompson.
        Swainsboro Mortuary was in charge of funeral arrangements.
