Land records including land exchanges and ownership of adjoining lands." 4
  • Event: Revolutionary War Military Service Feb 1776 Guilford County, North Carolina
  • Note: David, Sr., served in the military enlisting as a private in Capt. Thomas Flack's Company, Guilford County, North Carolina Militia, commanded by Col. James Martin. David participated in the Cross Creek Expedition, which resulted in the Battle of Moore's Creek on Feb 27, 1776 (the first battle fought in North Carolina); and he was paid for 22 days' service. 5

The date can be set before or in 1787 for the name David Porterfield appears on the 1787, 1790, and 1791 Wilkes County Tax Digest." 6

    David Porterfield, Sr.'s name was on a list of Elbert County voters that appeared in the Summer 1987 issue of Georgia Genealogical Magazine and was described as follows:

    "The crude list of voters to elect a delegate to the state convention of 1795 was found in the Willaim Barnett, Pre-1800 File II, on microfilm reel 202-47, Georgia Department of Archives and History. These voters elected William Barnett as their delegate over a man named Allen, 208 to 49. The return was certified by Jas. Tait, Jas, McCaskey, and Thos. Cook, Justices of the Peace."

  • Note:
    page 16 Elbert Co., Ga.: 4 Aug 1811, Thos. Jones, sheriff, to Christopher Porterfield, by virtue of an execution issued by M. Woods, clerk of the Superior Court, 18 Oct 1802, against the goods and chattels, lands and tenements of David Porterfield for $81.13 ¾ and $11.50 cost and afterwards, on 27 Apr 1811, there being due on said execution cost of $3.75, James Wood, D.S. of said county, levied aforesaid execution on 162 acres on waters of Skul Shoal Creek adj. Wilson Penn and others, it being the place whereon the defendant now lives, and after giving notice required by law did expose to public sale, Christopher Porterfield being the highest bidder for $20.25.
