In the 1880 US Federal Census for Sherman, Kearney, Nebraska, 35-year-old Indiana-born farmer John W and his 33-year-old Indiana-born wife have in their household their Indiana-born children, 12-year-old Emma D, 10-year-old Willie G, 9-year-old Elmer C, 7-year-old Albert L, 4-year-old Edgar, and one-year-old Minnie C. Minnie's birthplace of Indiana would indicate that the family moved to Nebraska after June 1879. All of the children except the two youngest, Edgar and Minnie, have attended school in the past year. John has a sprained ankle the day the census was taken. John's parents were born in Kentucky; everyone else's parents were born in Indiana.
