Mrs. Bessie Florence Willowsee Bridges Ball, 94, was the eternal companion of Augustus Young Ball. They were married for 64 years until he passed away in January 1986. She was also a devoted mother to Mrs. Hal Naomi Ball Kirk and the late Marvin Homer Ball, Sr. Mrs. Ball, Aunt Bessie, Sister Ball, Mother and Grandmother Ball were the many names to which she answered. The one she loved to hear best was "Grandmother". She taught her 9 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren by word and deed. Mrs. Ball was also a Christian example to her community, family and church.
Aunt Bessie always welcomed her and her husband's relatives with open arms and food on the table. Her husband's nieces and nephews frequently traveled several hours to visit with her. Sister Ball was the matriarch to her brothers and sisters at her Church. They always looked forward to her example and testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Mother Ball was loved by her children dearly and the memories of her always being there when she was needed will remain in their hearts.
As a sister to her siblings, she was also a mother. Her mother died early and she committed not to marry until she was 21, so she could fulfill her commitment to her mother to take care of them.
Sister Ball's sweet smile and spirit will remain with us forever.
The graveside service was a Mount Hope Cemetery in Southern Pines. Bishop Pinnock will officiate and give remarks. Dana Kirk (grandson) will dedicate the grave. Services were held Saturday, February 25th, 1995.
