  • ID: I8641
  • Name: Isaac HEALD
  • Sex: M
  • Birth: 17 AUG 1791 in Westford, Middlesex, Massachusetts 1
  • Death: 23 APR 1874 in Cavendish, Windsor, Vermont 2
  • Note:
Isaac was settled in the village of Proctorsville as early as 1814, coming to Cavendish from Stoddard, NH. He built his log cabin on his 400 acre farm? three miles north of the village of Proctorsville.

Isaac Heald "of Cavendish' purchased 161 acres and 14 rods of land from Phinehas Reed of Fitzwilliam, NH for $1,000 on 26 Nov., 1832. The property began in the middle of the road "north of the cider mill near where the brook crosses the road," and was bounded by property of Joseph Seaver, Isaac Saunders and Jonas Spaulding. On 25 June, 1833, for the sum of $90.00, Isaac purchased of Jesse Wheelock, who was at the time living in Albany, New York, 25 acres of land being the same land Jesse Wheelock obtained from John G. Wheelock. On 16 Nov., 1835, Isaac purchased an additional 26 acres of farmland from the same Phinehas Reed of Fitzwilliam for $200. The land was bounded by Joseph Seaver's SE corner, Jonas Spaulding's land, Franklin Putnam's property, and Zedekiah Spaulding's.

On 12 Dec., 1842, Isaac mortgaged his 130 acre farm for $200 to Edmund Ingalls of Cavendish, probably to buy more stock and farm equipment. The banks were not operating at this time and Edmund Ingalls often lent money to his neighbors at an interest rate they could afford. The bounds of the property in 1842 from this deed was: on the north by Proctor?s land, Nelson Saunders? land, and Joseph Seaver?s land; on the west by Franklin Putnam, and Jonas Spaulding; on the south by Franklin Putnam and Edward Fletcher, and on the east by Franklin Putnam. The mortgage was released on 26 Jan., 1847. At the age of 56 years, on 22 June, 1847, Isaac sold one undivided half of his home farm, together with all the buildings standing on it, to his son Otis M. Heald for $1,200.

Isaac served as a selectman of Cavendish in 1843.
