  • Note:
My grandmother was baptized in Edmonston, New Brunswick, Canada in 191 7. I don't know for certain whether the family was living in Edmonst on or in St. Jacques, where most of the other St Onge's were li ving. Her father, Napoleon Peter Soucy, always called "Pete" was work ed on the Trans-Canadian railroad, and was constantly travelling. Often t he family would go with him on these long railroad journeys. It was on o ne of these journeys, in the winter, that her sister Ferdinande became i ll and died. I'm not sure when Ferdinande was born, but my mother thin ks that she was younger than Aunt Pat. My Grandmother remembered Ferdinan de's funeral. She said that she was layed out in a little white cask et in the living room.

Sometime in the early to mid 1920's, my grandmother's family moved from N ew Brunswick, Canada to Graniteville, VT. My great grandfather bought a f arm. In addition to working the farm, he also worked in the granite quar ry which was a major employer at that time.

My grandmother got a job working for Stanley Tools in the 1950's and work ed there for many years until she retired.

The things I remember best about my grandparents were the camping tri ps we took with them when I was young. They were great fun, and I'll alw ays remember them. My grandparents loved to play cards, and we would alw ays play games like Rummy when we went camping. I remember one of the gam es that she taught us was Clock Solitaire, a version of the game that I 'd not heard of before or come across since. When not camping we would of ten go on day trips with my grandparents also. We went to places like t he old Mistic Seaport, Old Sturbridge Village, and where they built the su bmarines at Groton, CT.
