I am not positive about the names of Joel and Sallie's children. This information has been passed down from other researchers without naming sources.

In 1850 only two of his alleged children with Sallie Wood are still in his household in Butler Co. They are Joel JR., and Redmon. The death certificate's for Redmon and brother John list their parents as Joel Jenkins and Sallie (Elizabeth) Wood so those three, Joel Jr., John, and Redmon are documented and proven. Without a documented source for the other children they should be treated as "possible" children of Joel Jenkins and Sallie Wood.
The Heritage from the Muhlenberg Co. Genealogical Society dated Jan., Feb. March 1991, Vol 13, No 1:"In a special edition of Ancestor Retrieval Messenger, by Bobby Anderson. . . he poses the question: Did they find Joel's wife's grave? The answer is "we think so" and "we hope so." The question refers to the wife of Joel Jenkins, Sarah (Sallie) Wood Jenkins, who mothered the first 14 of Joel's 24 children. On a farm in the edge of Butler co.(next to Muhl. Co.) near Arnold's Bridge (Hwy 949). "Sallie Jenkins, b. 20 Jul 1795, d. 13 Nov 1839." This was the only engraved stone found in the undergrowth.A check of records reveal that Joel Jenkins, the son of Jesse and Martha House Jenkins came to Butler Co. from North Carolina shortly after 1800. These were the first Jenkins to settle in South Muhlenberg and North Logan Co. Joel was b. 24 Jul 1774 in NC (probably Rowan Co.) and m. Sarah Wood in Muhlenberg 17 Dec 1811. (Note: some genealogists still contend Joel Jenkins m. Polly Neill in Logan Co. the same year.)Joel and Sarah had 14 children (13 of whom can be named)before her death. Joel remarried in 1840, when he was 66 years old. On 29 Oct 1840, he and 13-year-old Martha (Patsey) Tooley rode to Springfield, TN., on two horses, and were married. This marriage produced 10 children, all of whom are documented.Joel Jenkins d. 13 Feb. 1863, almost 89 years old. He is buried in the Green Hill cemetery on his old farm just across the road and up the hill from his residence and that of Crawford Hunt. The fact that he remarried in 1840, about a year following the death of Sallie, whose grave was recently found, is one bit of evidence that this is his first wife. The second, and perhaps a stronger bit of evidence is that the tombstone at Sallie's grave is exactly the same as the one marking Joel's grave, with the exception of their names and dates.A descendant of Richmond V. Jenkins, s/o Joel and Sallie, tells the story, told by her grandmother, that Sallie was buried in the backyard of their home. So this could be, would be, and probably is the same Sallie Jenkins, wife of Joel."
NOTE: I visited the grave of Joel Jenkins several years ago, and since then the stone of Sallie Jenkins has been moved to Green Hill Cemetery in Butler Co., next to Joel.
The identity of Joel Jenkins, and his wives, has been in dispute for several years. The confusion comes from the record of a marriage between Joel Jenkins and Mary "Polly" Neill in Logan Co., KY., on Nov 29, 1811, and then a few weeks later, on Dec 17, 1811, Joel Jenkins and Sarah "Sallie" Wood in Muhlenberg Co., KY.
One possibility is that Joel did marry Polly Neill in Logan Co., but not in 1811. From researcher Anetta Cole who has seen the records at the court house in Logan Co.: "I learned that the original records (Logan Marriage records) had been destroyed due to deterioration of documents, that they had become unreadable. They had been transcribed and originals destroyed. The transcription page containing this marriage contains marriages from 1798 to 1816, not in date order-years or months. I believe that the date was transcribed wrong. I believe that they married in 1801, 1807, 1809, or 1810 - all which would be easily confused due to writing at that time and of course the unreadable condition of the originals.".
So, it is still possible that Polly Neill was Joel Jenkins first wife, but not the mother of his children. If birthyears are accurate then all of his known children were born after his marriage to Sallie Wood.
Researcher Jen Ritchie has the death certificates for Joel and Sallie's sons, John and Redmon Jenkins. Sallie Wood is the mother's name on John's certificate, and Elizabeth Wood is the name on Redmon's certificate.
There is also another possibility for the marriage of Polly Neill.
In 1820 Logan Co., KY., there is a Joseph Jenkins and family. With the original Logan Co., Marriage records in such poor condition at the time they were transcribed perhaps the date Nov 29, 1811 is correct, but the name of the groom was Joe or Joseph Jenkins, and not Joel Jenkins.

1820 Logan Co., KY., Census, Pg#46, there is a Joel Jenkins. His household consisted of 3 males under 10; 1 male 10-15; 1 male 26-44;; 2 females 10-15; and 1 female 26-44.
(This household composition does not match what is believed to be the family of Joel and Sallie Wood. According to other researchers, Joel and Sallie had 5 daughters by 1820 and no sons. It is likely that they actually only had 2 or 3 daughters who may be in another household.)
