  • Note:
I am soooo upset with the plans for my grandmother's burial that I am not attending her graveside service planned by her daughter(s) Jean and/or Zane. Big Mama died on Tuesday and was not buried until Sunday so Jean would not have to close her business. This is unforgivable to me. The mourners (about twenty to twenty-five) waited at the cemetery and Big Mama was brought there, a few words said, family was asked to wait away from burial spot for a few minutes to bury her, and she was buried. How dare they?!!! No wake in a church, home or funeral chapel; no last hug; no last kiss; no last I love you; no last goodbye. *cries* Vonnie described this as a bare minimum legal disposal of her body. I agree. This is one step above taking her out and throwing her in a ditch like an old dog or something. I am appalled. If Mama or Uncle Harold had been alive, this would never have happened. This lady would have been buried with the respect that she deserves. No one even placed an obituary in the newspaper. I called three days after she passed on and purchased a nice obituary for her in the Decatur Daily. I will post it below here later.

Dad was nice and gave her the plot two over from Mama at Hartselle Memory Gardens. I asked Dad to change that spot to allow her to be buried right next to Mama as I think they would both like. He did so. Thank you, Dad. You are a good man.

Big Mama, I am soo sorry that you were not given the respect of a lady such as you are. I know that you are in a much better place now. I am ashamed to admit that no one cared for you but Uncle Leslie. I wish I had lived closer or that you had moved home with me when I asked you to do so.

I can imagine the reunion when you were met by Granny and GranDaddy Lyle, Uncle Leo, Uncle Leroy, Uncle Cleemon, Uncle Harold, Lottie Bell, Mama and all of your other family and friends. I will see you when my work here is done and complete. I love you so very, very much, Big Mama. I am sorry that your later life was no better than it was. I miss you. Rest in Heavenly Peace, my dear, sweet grandmother, Big Mama.
