Welcome to our family tree. This is a work in progress and is always being updated. It is not an effort all my own, but a compilation of many. Your help and support is encouraged. I have tried to be as accurate as possible, but I'm sure there are many errors. If you have any corrections, additions, concerns, or just want to say hi we would love to hear from you. Our website has alot more information, including: birth, death, and marriage records. I have been offline for awhile and I am way behind on emails.

  • Name: Henry Byrom
  • Sex: M
  • Birth: 28 MAR 1778 in Essex County, Virginia
  • Death: 3 NOV 1853 in Franklin County, Tennessee
  • Note:
    Alt. Death: 2 NOV 1853

He died as the result of injuries sustained from a run away team of horses. He came with his two brothers, John and James, from Fredricksburg, Spotsylvania County, Virginia in 1803, and appears to have gone to Mecklenburg County, NC. Later, in 1811 he went to Franklin County, TN from NC with John and James his brothers. (Info comes from the Byrom Manuscript).

Birth information obtained from Family Search International Genealogical Index; FILE#: 537330

Henry and Mary Stampier Cooke Byrom reared a family of three sons and seven daughters on Rock Creek, a few miles south of Tullahoma, Coffee County, Tennessee. An additional son had died in infancy before the family moved to Tennessee. Their old log cabin was known to still be standing in 1947.
The Census Report of 1850 for Franklin County lists the ages of Henry and Mary Byrom as 73 and 71. Living with the old couple were three granddaughters - Jane Holt, age 14, youngest daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Byrom Holt, and the two sisters Lucinda Jane and Mary Francis Byrom, ages 13 and 3. The latter two were daughters of Henry and Mary Stampier Cooke Byrom's deceased son Benjamin Byrom, who had died in Texas.
Henry Byrom's will was made on July 19, 1852, and was proved on January 18, 1854 (Will Book I, pages 325-326.) The place of burial for Henry and Mary Stampier Cooke Byrom is thought to have been near their old home place, but the exact spot has not been determined.

It has recently come to my attention, through a letter by HHB, that Henry and Mary's children did not have two christian names:

"It is of some importance to point out that the names of the children of Henry and Mary Cooke -- none had double names and most only ever had single Christian names. There were never double (2) Christian names for Byroms before 1800 so James Byrom (1788-1875) never James Hoard Byrom. I was at fault or misinformed otherwise -- sorry about that. My Thomas Byrom (1811-1864) had only a single name so as brother Milton Byrom (1817-1882)."

I have only dropped the double names on two children; John Thomas to Thomas, and William Milton to Milton. Birth and other recrods I have come across seem to agree with the double names of the other children. (DRK-JUN 2002).

Information obtained from Cheryl Haynes (CLHPrairie@aol.com). *death 2 NOV 1863

    Henry Byrom married Sallie Cook.
They came to Tennessee and settled on Rock Creek, Franklin County a few miles west of Tullahoma Tennessee. Have no record of where they were born, married or died. Have seen their home place. They were farmers and reared a family of ten children; seven sons and three daughters (Addie Byrom Gambill, 1933)
