    Mrs. Florine Bass Nixon, 84, of Evans-Bass Road, died Jan. 7, 1997, in Chowan Hospital.

    A native of Chowan County, Mrs. Bass was the daughter of the late Alice Bratten and William A. Bass and the wife of the late Levy Robert Nixon. Mrs. Bass was a lifelong member of the Rocky Hock Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Bertha Dale Circle. She had worked at Chowan Hospital and Seabrooks for many years.

    She is survived by her daughter, Shelby Jean Whitfield of Reno, Nev., her son, Danny Gray Nixon of Edenton; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

    A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Rocky Hock Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronald Cava. Burial will follow in the Nixon Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Evans Funeral Home, Edenton, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
